Hand Veins

Although not dysfunctional, hand veins can be cosmetically unappealing. As we age, the hands may lose fat volume making the underlying structures, such as veins and tendons, appear more obvious. There are 2 ways to treat unappealing hand veins.

SCLEROTHERAPY

An FDA approved solution is injected into the undesirable hand veins using a tiny needle. The vein will become firm and tender for a period of time until the body reabsorbs the treated vein, usually over a period of 3-6 months. The treatment takes just a few minutes and the hands will be wrapped immediately afterward with instructions to keep the hands elevated for a period of time. Side effects may include discoloration of the skin overlying the vein, and rarely a blood clot in the deeper veins of the upper extremity.

RADIESSE

Radiesse is a calcium based filler that has been FDA approved for use in treating unattractive hand veins and tendons. The filler is injected around the veins causing the veins to appear less prominent for up to a year. The procedure is easy and takes just a few minutes. Side effects may include redness, swelling and pain.
