Is a Chemical Peel Right for You?

Like many people, you probably have an issue or two with your skin. It may have fine lines, age spots, or even acne scars. But with so many different cosmetic treatments on the market, which one is the right one for you?

Here at Eterna Vein & Medical Aesthetics in Puyallup, Washington, our team of expert aestheticians understands that it’s important to customize any treatment to the patient’s individual needs and goals. One customizable treatment we offer is the chemical peel. Here’s what you need to know about it to make an informed decision.

What chemical peels do

A chemical peel is a procedure where we apply a chemical solution made up of one or more acids to your skin, removing the top, damaged layers. Since it effectively creates a wound in the skin tissue, your body generates a healing response. It begins to produce more collagen, one of the proteins responsible for giving your skin strength and suppleness, and a protein whose production diminishes with age. The result is a layer of new, healthy skin, free from the blemishes that marked it before.

Chemical peels can be done on the face, neck, and/or hands and are used to:

Chemical peels are not helpful for sagging skin, bulges, and more severe wrinkles. These require other kinds of cosmetic treatments, such as laser resurfacing, dermal fillers, or a face or brow lift.

Types of chemical peels

At Eterna, we offer a variety of different chemical peels.

1. ZO Stimulator Peel

This combination of alphahydroxy acids (citric, glycolic and lactic acids) helps improve skin texture and tone by providing both epidermal exfoliation and renewal. Accelerated exfoliation of the existing skin surface pigmentation creates a more even skin tone, while a unique brightening complex works to help prevent the formation of new pigment. Anti-irritants and antioxidants aid in reducing the appearance of redness, thus minimizing skin irritation. This advanced peel solution is gentle enough for all skin types and can be repeated every 2-4 weeks.

2. iS Clinical P2 Prodigy Peel

The iS Clinical P2 Prodigy Peel System is a superficial peel designed to address fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, acne, superficial scars and other concerns associated with photo-aging. It is suitable for all skin types.

3. iS Clinical P3 Prodigy Peel

This peel is a superficial to medium-depth peel designed to address fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, acne, superficial scars, and other concerns associated with photo-aging. This peel is suited for light, fair to medium, white to olive skin.

4. ZO 3 step Peel

The ZO 3 step peel is a medium depth peel that maximizes texture improvement and produces longer-lasting results. This exclusive blend of tri-chloric acid (TCA), salicylic acid and lactic acid removes the outmost layers of the skin. Retinol crème works in addition to the initial exfoliation to boost skin renewal for longer-lasting skin benefits. Designed to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, acne scarring, rough texture, large pores and dullness. This peel promotes softer, smoother and firming looking skin.
